Friends,

Last week in the newsletter you may have read Kaj Sinclair’s article encouraging each of us, as part of the Aldersgate UMC community and of the broader Church, to engage in conversations around the topics of race and racism.

Kaj mentioned in his article that the Mission and Outreach ministry team is suggesting a pathway to begin these conversations. “Let’s Talk About Race” will include a short video by author Dr. Robin DiAngelo, which you can watch ahead of time, and a number of opportunities for online virtual zoom conversations facilitated by Brian and Rita Carter, Kaj Sinclair and myself. I want to strongly encourage you to be involved in one of the three conversation options.

God calls us to be courageous, steadfast and true to our calling to transform the world from one of division to one of peace and reconciliation.  These discussions are not easy to undertake, but we believe now is the time to start these conversations about the realities of race and racism and how they affect our communities, our church, our families, our nation and ourselves.

The Zoom Virtual Discussion about race, racism and anti-racism is for adults and older youth. Discussion sessions will be offered at the times and days below. You can register here.  Please attend both weeks at the same day and time, and note your name, email and how many will attend. If you don’t have Zoom, you may join by phone. After you register, you will receive an email with instructions of how to join your class.
